1) My media product, which I designed, I feel goes against a lot of stereotypical magazine covers you see on the market. My product is fairly plain in content and colour, I did this because I feel it is very different from the standard cover you see which tends to have a large proportion of the cover as a really dark colour, usually containing a large picture which covers around half to three quarters of the page. This is done to show boldness of the cover and emphasise the main stories or articles in the magazine. My cover contains two smaller pictures at he bottom. Mainstream magazine covers also tend to seem very crowded because they also contain a lot of sub heading on the front cover which are placed to try to get readers enticed into buying their magazine. I did not place loads of sub heading on my cover because I feel that some readers would not like a magazine that is to ‘busy’ This goes against the ‘norm’ and I feel it does it very well.
2) Media products, which are available, now seem to be aimed at certain social groups. Magazines tend to be aimed at certain groups of people ranging from ‘Goths’ to ‘Grebos’. My magazine goes against this conformity because I feel it does not have a very specific audience, which it is intended for. My cover is quite plain and uses neutral colours. This gives my magazine a broader potential audience as a variety of people can buy it as they do not feel it is stereotyped at a different social class to them.
3) My media product I feel would be distributed to the public in a lot of different media institutions. I would like my media product to be distributed in large retailers such as tesco and asda because they have quite large magazine sections but also have a large number of customers that pass though the supermarkets every day. I would like my product distributed in this way because I feel it would get out to the larger market and I would have potentially more customers. This way of distributing shows that my magazine does not have stereotypical readers. It does this because it is being offered to a very large section of the public, which ranges through a wide variety of social classes.
4) The audience for my media product I feel would be very varied I tried to focus my magazine not on a specific audience but on the audiences needs as a whole. I tried to make my media product seem like anybody could feel like they could pick up and read it. I did this by not focusing on a certain class of music. I tried to make my product seem available to a large amount of different social classes.
5) I tried to attract my audience in a few different ways with my media cover. I did this by making it so that my product was very easy on the eye and simple yet being professional enough to attract everyone. I used plain colours on my cover and then contrasted this with black faded writing. This gives the magazine a clear contrast and I think it will show to audience the contrasts between different music styles and different magazines.
6) I have learnt a lot about different technologies in the course of making my final product. Before I did my final product I was unable to use fireworks effectively, but now after producing a number of prelims and my final products I feel confident to use fireworks to a much higher standard. I found using fireworks hard to do especially to modify or edit photos of my own. Now I feel much more confident and able to use the software effectively.
7) When I look back on my preliminary tasks I feel that I have learnt a vast amount. I feel that I have learnt about the difficulties facing magazine producers all the time. Every week magazines have to find stories to fill the pages and also find a way that to sell those stories which appeals to the public. I have also learnt that people’s tastes are very different. When I look at my prelim then at my final product I can see a different style of magazine completely.
This is nme magazine. The magazine is seen as a kind of punk/indie magazine. The magazine cover has many differant things used on it attract audiences. First thing you see when you look at this cover is the big bold Red writing. This coupled with the large virtually full page picture is probable the most effective technique used to attract peoples eye to the cover. It works very effectivly because it is big bold and vibrant. The cover itself is a very dark cover and does not contain any bright strong colours. This is normal for this type of magazine as it appeals more to their target audience than if it was say pink. The cover seems to the eye very busy. This is because of lots of little stories and large pictures. The page is dominated by the large picture, but the designers cleverly put all the side stories and captions in white and cream. This is good because even thought the large portion of writing is red you eye still gets pulled to the seperate captions. The magazine cover suites its audience very well as it contains stories they want to hear and have cleverly put the most enticing stories on the front cover to make sure the potential readers can see what they will be reading.
I think this cover is very well suited to its purpose and is very cleverly designed
